A Spanish fashion designer has turned his dreams into reality, spray on clothing. Manuel Torres teamed up with scientests from the Imperial London Colllege to invent clothing that can be sprayed out of a can directly onto a person. This seamless fabric consists of small fibers mixed with polymers and solvent allowing it to be sprayed. Suprisingly enough, the texture of the sprayed fabric can vary depending on weather the solvent contains wool, linen, or acrylic fibers. The futuristic fabric is washable and reusable.
At a demonstration in London the fashion designer sprayed his invention onto a male model. He took 15 minutes to complete a t-shirt. The fabric dries when it hits the skin but it is very cold limiting the use to only t-shirts. In the future Torres hopes to find other uses for the spray like bandadges and other similar things. Torres decided to team up with chemical enginer, Paul Luckham, to set up a company called Fabrican Ltd. This company is exploring other applications to the spray including bandages, hygiene wipes, and upholstery.
The fabric can be manipulated to vary in toughness. This allows the users to make a variety of useful fabric, from comfortable clothing to casts. The fabric can also be used as a transdermal drug because the can can carry medicine and can deliver the medicine when applied. Patients can choose a variety of colors to match their skin tone making hiding wounds easier. The fabric can also be used to help keep the house clean. By adding cleaning and disinfecting liquid to the spray, sponges and wipes can be made and used for cleaning.
The futuristic fabric can be changed so easily that it has unlimited uses. The uses not only include fashion, medicine, and hygiene but it also includes upkeep for cars and planes and design for furniture and buildings. The fabric is easy and quick to use making it a hit. The new company even has its own website which includes the many uses, pictures and videos. www.fabricanltd.com
